Course Structure
Overview of Components
- Live Cases: Exposure to a variety of gynecologic laparoscopic surgeries (e.g., hysterectomy, ovarian cystectomy, myomectomy, endometriosis).
- Endo-Trainer Practice: Practice on laparoscopic simulators / endo-trainers to build hand–eye coordination, suturing skills, and comfort with instruments.
- Theory Lectures: Regular didactic sessions covering principles of laparoscopy, patient and OT setup, ergonomics, instrument handling, and complication management.
- OPD Exposure: Trainees accompany Dr. Tajane in outpatient clinics, learning pre-op evaluation, case selection, and post-op follow-up.
- Case Studies and Discussion: Clinical case reviews, morbidity-mortality discussions, and surgical decision-making.
- Surgical Video Demonstrations: High-quality recorded surgeries shown and analyzed stepwise.
- Assistance & Hands-On: The core of the program — trainees assist in real OT cases and progressively take over parts of the surgery under supervision.
Three Training Phases
The training is divided into three phases to ensure gradual skill acquisition:
- Phase I – Observation
- Trainees begin by observing live laparoscopic surgeries performed by Dr. Tajane.
- This phase helps to internalize the flow of procedures, understand port placement, gain comfort with OR setup, and absorb the surgical rhythm.
- Phase II – Assistance
- In this phase, trainees act as first or second assistant in scheduled laparoscopic cases.
- They help with camera control, instrument handling, and assist in key steps, under Dr. Tajane’s guidance.
- This hands-on support builds muscle memory and gives exposure without the risk of errors on their own.
- Phase III – Hands-on Laparoscopy
- Finally, trainees perform parts of or entire laparoscopic surgeries themselves, under direct supervision.
- This is supported by endo-trainer practice, video backup, and step-wise coaching.
- The goal is safe, independent performance of gynecologic laparoscopic procedures by the end of the course.
